Cecelia “Ceil” M. Shogren, 97, formerly of N 12 ½ Ave E and Pennel Park, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Viewcrest Health Center.
Cecelia “Ceil” M. Shogren, 97, formerly of N 12 ½ Ave E and Pennel Park, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Viewcrest Health Center.
Ceil was born May 15, 1915 in Duluth to Charles and Agnes Miller.
She graduated from Central High School and went to work for St. Mary’s as a switchboard operator, retiring as chief operator after 30 years. She married Theodore “Pete” Shogren on Sept. 11, 1939.
Ceil was a former member of St. Anthony’s; she attended St. Mary’s Hospital Chapel and was a member of St. Joseph’s in Duluth Heights. Ceil enjoyed spending time at the “hide out” at Beaver Lake, especially with her family; she enjoyed playing cards with her grand and great grandchildren; crafting and collecting dolls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Agnes; husband, Theodore “Pete”; her son, David; sister, Kay Ouellette; brothers, Herbert, Ray and Frank and great grandson Craig.
Ceil is survived by her sons, Dick (Kathy), Bill (Mary) and Jack of Duluth and Terry (Patty) of Hermantown; grandchildren, Laura, Mary, David, Andrea, Annette, Julie and Lisa; special great granddaughter, Savanah, along with 38 other great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Ceil’s family would like to thank the staff at Viewcrest for their loving care of Ceil.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with Wake Prayers at 6:30 p.m. in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday from 10 a.m. to the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 151 W Linden St. Duluth Heights. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to Viewcrest Health Center, 3111 Church St. Duluth, 55811 or to the donors choice.
