  • A preliminary report for plans on Interstate Highway 35 between Mesaba Avenue and 26th Avenue East was released yesterday by consulting engineers. The route puts the freeway about 30 feet from buildings on Michigan Street and may require relocation of some businesses.

  • More than 500 people jammed the State Office Building in St. Paul yesterday for a House subcommittee hearing on a controversial handgun control bill. The bill calls for a system of permits to purchase and carry handguns in public places.

  • Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center in Moose Lake will begin work this spring on a $2.6 million addition and renovation project. The first phase, a 10,000-square-foot addition to house the physical therapy and radiology departments, begins in May.

  • The $25 million Stone Ridge Shopping Center on Miller Trunk Highway and Trinity Road is scheduled to open this fall. Businesses planning to locate there include ShopKo, Toys “R” Us, F&M Distributors, Cub Foods and Pier 1 Imports.
