Adele W. Rowland, 88, longtime Marble resident, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013 in her home in Nashwauk.
She was born Sept. 13, 1924 in French Lake Township near Annandale, Minn., she was the daughter of Elmer M. and Mabel C. (Sandlund) Tomte.
It was in this same area that Adele attended school until she moved with her family to the Park Rapids area in 1940. In 1952 Adele moved to the Iron Range where she worked at Oja's Store in Pengilly for many years. Adele and Cecil Rowland were married in Coleraine on May 31, 1960, and moved to Marble in 1962. She spent most of the time as a home maker, but also got a degree in and worked as a nurse’s assistant for a short time. One thing that gave Adele much pleasure was being very active in the Grace English Lutheran Church of Marble. Through the years she served the church in many capacities including holding several offices in the church as well as the Ladies Guild, and operating the church keyboard for services.
Her parents, Elmer and Mabel Tomte; her husband, Cecil in 1997; a brother, Merrill Tomte; and a sister, Blanche Swendra preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Larry D. Boots of Jacksonville, Fla., and Harvey D. (Connie) Boots of Orange Beach Ala.; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene Gottsman of Brooksville, Fla., as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives including Bob and Jan Cass and their families.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 with a prayer service at 6 p.m. in the Grace English Lutheran Church, Marble and will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, March 22, 2013 in the church. Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine. Arrangements are with the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine.
