A public hearing and open house to discuss the proposed Northern Lights Express high-speed passenger rail service from the Twin Ports to the Twin Cities is set for April 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the Cambridge Armed Forces Reserve Community Center.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will explain the environmental assessment for the 155-mile rail project, in conjunction with the Federal Railroad Administration, the Minneapolis-

Duluth/Superior Passenger Rail Alliance and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The assessment documents the purpose and need of the project along with the anticipated

service-wide social, economic and environmental impacts. It is available at www.mndot.gov/nlx. Copies of the environmental assessment will be available for review during the public hearing and are also available for public viewing during business hours at the Duluth main library and Hinckley library, among other locations.

Comments on the EA may be submitted online at www.mndot.gov/nlx. Written comments can be mailed before to the close of the public comment period on April 17 to: Julie Carr, MnDOT Project Manager, Minnesota Department of Transportation, 395 John Ireland Boulevard, St. Paul, MN 55155-1800.
