MINNEAPOLIS — A Coon Rapids man has been charged with stealing prosthetics and other medical supplies from the hospital where he worked and selling them online.
Federal prosecutors in Minneapolis say 52-year-old Peter Stasica was charged Friday with wire fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Stasica used to manage the prosthetics department at the University of Minnesota Medical Center Fairview. Prosecutors said that over a six-month span in 2011, Stasica stole prosthetics and related supplies to sell on eBay. He also was accused of using false pretenses to try to persuade patients to give him prosthetics they weren't using.
A working number for Stasica couldn't be found Saturday. A message left for him at his parents’ home wasn't immediately returned.
