How much longer will the Girl Scouts be selling their cookies this year?
“That’s the question of the year” — or at least one that’s asked frequently at this time of year, said Martha Livingston, a volunteer development assistant at the Lakes and Pines Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
After a good month of cookie sales, Livingston said a cookie boost of Girl Scouts selling cookies at booths at stores is expected the last week in March.
Last month, local scouts participated in a “Cookies in the Courtyard” event to celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie Day on Feb. 8.
“We invited our downtown neighbors to come by, roast marshmallows and enjoy s’mores made with Thanks-a-Lot cookies with coffee or hot cider,” Livingston said.
Nathan Bentley of Bentleyville lent fire pits to the Duluth scouts as the cookie day was celebrated across the country.
Staying current with the times, the Girl Scouts offer apps for smartphone users to find out when and where cookie sales are. There’s also a website, www.girlscoutcookies.org , listing cookie sales. The
Budgeteer tried it, and found one will take place at Fitger’s,
600 E. Superior S. on Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
