Larry O. MacMillan, age 72, a recent resident of Hermantown, and longtime resident of the Thomson/Esko area, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home, with his family by his side.

Larry O. MacMillan, age 72, a recent resident of Hermantown, and longtime resident of the Thomson/Esko area, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home, with his family by his side. Larry was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Duluth, MN to Orrin and Elsie (Gustafson) MacMillan and graduated from Carlton High School in 1958.

After graduation, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and served from 1958 to 1961. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1961-1965. Larry worked for the Potlatch Corp. in Cloquet for 26½ years and retired in 2002. Larry was united in marriage to Henrietta “Hetty” Tillman in May of 1967. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Thomson Fire Dept., and a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club. Larry enjoyed golfing, feeding the birds, watching the deer in his yard, and spending time with his family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dan MacMillan. He is survived by his wife, Hetty of 45 years; one daughter, RaeAnn (Ronald) Muccilli of Duluth; one son, Mickey (Michelle) MacMillan of Becker, MN; 4 grandchildren, Dan (Melissa Kruger) MacMillan of Duluth, Gabby Muccilli of Duluth, Cale MacMillan of Becker, and Claire MacMillan of Becker; one brother, Mike (Carol) MacMillan of Brooklyn Park; one aunt, Mary Bro of Carlton; one great-grandchild due in July; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. The visitation will resume on Friday, March 1, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service also at Nelson Funeral Care. Military Honors will be presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard, followed with a luncheon in the fellowship room. Spring interment service will be at Hillside Cemetery in Carlton.
