Aside from hearts, chocolate and all that lovey-dovey, Valentine’s Day is famous for another thing: requiring reservations.

Here are a few ways to celebrate that can’t be a last-minute pick:

  • Lyric Opera of the North’s annual fundraiser, “Shakespeare in Love,” features selections from operas based on Shakespeare’s plays, hors d’oeuvres, a dessert auction and signature cocktails and wine.

The event is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Music Center, 201 W. Fourth St. Tickets are $50 per person. RSVP at (218) 464-0922.

  • Glensheen is hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner that includes live music by the Randy Lee Trio and a beer and wine tasting.

The menu includes sweetheart brie with cranberry apricot relist and French crudités for an appetizer, a baby green salad with fresh berries and citrus vinaigrette and tiramisu for dessert. Main course options include filet mignon with jumbo shrimp and rosemary baby red potatoes or squash ravioli with champagne cream sauce. Both entrees include green beans with almond slivers, petit pan rolls and French roast coffee.

Dinner is at 6 p.m. Thursday and Feb. 15. Tickets are $67 or $57 for Friends of Glensheen.

  • Zinema 2 is hosting a Valentine’s Day Dinner & a Movie.

Date-night starts with a showing of Charlie Chaplin’s “City Lights” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by dinner at Zeitgeist Arts Café at 8 p.m. and a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian option. $75 per couple. RSVP at (218) 722-9100.

  • Dubh Linn Irish Pub is hosting a comedy-themed Valentine’s Day event that includes a three-course meal and a show starring Chris Barnes, who was voted one of the funniest men in America.

    RSVP at (218) 727-1559.
