HELMIE MARIE MAKI

Helmie Marie Maki, 101, of Hibbing, formerly of Toivola, passed away, Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing.

Helmie was born Oct. 28, 1911 in Floodwood, Minn., to Robert and Carolina (Lepaniemi) Ranta.

She grew up and attended school in Floodwood. Helmie was united in marriage to John Maki and they made their home in Toivola. She enjoyed knitting, traveling, berry picking, making rugs, peeling pulp, gardening and canning and spending time with family and friends.

Helmie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Eugene Maki; daughter, Marlet Olds; daughter-in-law, Gloria Maki; and two brothers, Reino Ranta and Donald Ranta.

Survivors include one son Ronald Maki and one son-in-law Lloyd Olds.

SERVICE: 12 Noon Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 in Hope Lutheran Community Church in Toivola with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Rev. Michael Anderson will officiate.
