If you think you’re seeing a lot of red on Friday, you don’t need to visit your optometrist.
Businesses, institutions and individuals all over town will be wearing red in recognition of what the American Heart Association calls National Wear Red Day. It’s to call attention to fighting heart disease, which is the No. 1 killer of men and women in the Northland, the heart association says.
SuperOne Foods, Essentia Health, the Skyway near St. Luke’s hospital and Kolar Toyota will go red Friday, the heart association tells us. A news release from the Lake Superior Zoo says animal keepers will wear pedometers to call attention to the value of healthy lifestyles, and brown bears Phoebe and Trouble will get heart-themed enrichment at 1:30 p.m.
There’s more: Enger Tower will be lit red, red spotlights will shine on Fitger’s smokestack, and red spotlights also will illuminate Amsoil Arena during breaks in Friday’s hockey game between Minnesota Duluth and Denver.
To make it official, Mayor Don Ness has issued a proclamation declaring Friday to be Wear Red Day in Duluth.
