Reader’s view: Closing Fond-du-Luth Casino would be best for everyone

I believe the current casino in downtown Duluth represents what is wrong with our city. Greed and poor planning with regard to its location has led to crime and people of little income and life skills spending their resources foolishly, creating heartache and a need for many handouts from local charities.

I believe the current casino in downtown Duluth represents what is wrong with our city. Greed and poor planning with regard to its location has led to crime and people of little income and life skills spending their resources foolishly, creating heartache and a need for many handouts from local charities.

Working people can scarcely move around downtown without fear of being approached by panhandlers or without worrying about their cars being broken into. The cost of the casino to taxpayers in law enforcement, welfare and health issues exceeds any local gain stated by good intent.

The casino should be closed. Both sides would survive. The current leaders of the tribe want to back out of paying the amount agreed to by past leaders to the city for allowing the casino in Duluth. It would be better for all not to make this a racist issue. Future zoning and legal contracts should be clear to both sides.

The only ones profiting from the current mess seem to be the lawyers. It is sad to see people happy from putting one race against another.
