The driver of a fuel truck at the Thunderbird Mine in Eveleth was injured Friday morning when his truck tipped over.

The Cliffs Natural Resources employee was trapped for a time and then taken by ambulance to a Duluth hospital. Company officials said the injuries were not life-threatening. The Eveleth Fire Department responded to the accident.

The company said diesel fuel from the truck spilled but that it had been contained and a cleanup was under way.

Roads in the area were icy at the time, but it’s not clear if that contributed to the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Cliffs is conducting an investigation with assistance from the United Steelworkers Union, the Mine Safety and Health Administration and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
