Reader’s view: School Board, City Council don’t listen anymore
When a person buys or builds a new home, don’t they try to sell the old one first? Why didn’t the Duluth schools? (“Unsold properties a burden on Duluth school district,” Dec. 17)

People on Social Security this year are getting a 1.7 percent increase, not an 11 percent increase (“Duluth School Board OKs 11.9 percent tax increase,” Dec. 19).
We have two bodies in power that don’t seem to listen to anyone: The School Board and the City Council. The best thing that could happen is that the state comes and audits the books of Independent School District 709. The information the district hands out doesn’t always seem to add up.
The city of Duluth doesn’t need a tax increase; what it really needs is an overhaul of street maintenance and public works. It’s funny: The three times it snowed this winter I
didn’t see a plow or sand truck; but when it rained on a recent Saturday my street was sanded three times. My tax dollars are really being well-spent!
