Joyce E. Adams, 68, Coleraine, died of pancreatic cancer on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 in her home surrounded by her husband and daughters.
Joyce E. Adams, 68, Coleraine, died of pancreatic cancer on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 in her home surrounded by her husband and daughters.
Born Feb. 13, 1944 in Berwyn, IL, she was the daughter of Earl and Lillian (Bond) Bumgarner.
Joyce grew up at the Tamarack Lodge on Big Winnie where she opened 66 continuous fishing seasons. She was a 1962 graduate of Deer River High School and graduated from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She taught school for one year in Hibbing and then taught 34 years in the Vandyke Elementary School in Coleraine, most of that time teaching second grade. Joyce and K. Bruce “Zip” Adams were married on April 8, 1967 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Taconite.
Joyce was a member of the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church of Coleraine and its C.C.W. She was an avid bridge player, hunter, fisherman, snowmobiler, water skier, and bowler. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, ceramics, and stained glass.
Her parents, Earl and Lillian Bumgarner and a granddaughter, Gabrielle preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, “Zip”; daughters Maureen (Benjamin) Roy of Bemidji and Margo (Cliff) Lamb of Marianna, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jordan, Gaetan, Nicolette, Dante, and Jack; a step-sister, Sheree Bochenek of Minneapolis; and her best friend, Gail Rasmussen of International Falls.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 in the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Coleraine. Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
