Sibley Clubs and OrganizationsEverybody knows about sports, band, theater, etc., but there are numerous smaller clubs and organizations to be part of at Sibley.

For those incoming freshmen or anybody interested in getting involved with the school, we want to get out just some of the ways to do that. Join clubs! We all know about band, orchestra, choir and all of the sports options. We know about the drama department and its fabulous plays and musicals. But here are a few smaller groups with open arms, ready for newcomers every year. Some are geared to specific students and some require auditions and may be done taking new participants for this year. But you’ll still know they’re out there and be able to get ready for next year!
Book Club: Invites book lovers to unite and encourage reading for all ages. We discuss novels we have read in the past or even ones we are interested in reading in the future. There is even a possibility of working with the middle schools to encourage middle schoolers to read.
Debate and Speech: In debate, students are on teams to try to formulate arguments for or about a given topic by researching and using various argument techniques. There is a specific format and students learn to defend a point of view, speak convincingly and deliver a message confidently. Speech is more individual and wide ranging. Interpretive events include humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation and poetry. Public Address events include original oratory, informative speaking and extemporaneous speaking on a current event.
Drumline: Come drum with us! Drumline takes teens of all experience (including those with none) to have fun drumming and competing together. Meets Monday nights in the Band Room.
GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) : A group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, questioning and allies. It is a club where these people can talk privately and feel safe and welcomed. We try to advocate acceptance and the ability to be yourself without feeling marginalized.
Key Club: An international volunteer organization that gives teenagers the opportunity to make a difference in their community by volunteering. It is only $15 for the whole year and they meet every Friday morning at 7:45 in room A227.
LiveGreen : A group of students who seek to get the school and community more aware and responsive to environmental concerns. They’ve implemented glass, bottle and can recycling program and they participate in environmental activities.
SADD : Students Against Destructive Decisions. This group helps students make positive decisions in their everyday lives and participates in activities to help promote this goal. Meetings take place on Wednesday mornings.
Sibley Scribe: The school newspaper!!! They are a group of awesome writers who are glad to take in any new ones. Spontaneous or scatter brained…or both…they “deliver” six issues a year to the students of Henry Sibley, focusing on school and district issues and student opinions.
Six O’Clock Jazz and Encore : A singing group that is more challenging than choir and directed by Mr. Kapaun. It has more solo opportunities than choir and helps with vocal improvement. Anyone can join. Definitely for music lovers! Encore is a girls-only singing group that is directed by Mr. Kapaun. Similar to Six O’Clock Jazz but more like the JV version. Anyone can join.
These are only a few of the clubs you can get involved with to become more connected to HSHS. Show your spirit and join in on making Sibley a better high school by joining a club or even participating in school events! Go Warriors!!!!!!
