Roger David King, 64, of Duluth passed away Dec. 6, 2012, in Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, Minn.
Roger was born to Roger Greenwood King and Paula Jessie Smith Nov. 27, 1948.
He grew up in Duluth and graduated from Central High School in 1967. He then served in the Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked at the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railroad, retiring in 1987.
As a young adult, Roger was adventurous and relished going on long canoe trips in Canada with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, becoming an exceptionally skilled outdoorsman. Roger was especially fond of Brook Trout fishing along the North Shore. In his later years, Roger took pleasure in writing poetry, collecting art, spending time with his pets, and taking still life and nature photos.
Roger was a kind, thoughtful, and loving person. He always believed in being honest and respectful. He consistently demonstrated generosity to others and loved and treasured his family unconditionally.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother Robert Gregory King; and sister-in-law Gloria Jean King.
Roger will be missed by his daughter, Donna Kleeberger; son Jack King; mother Paula King; brother Donald (Laurie A.) King; sister Laurie K. King; grandchildren Kialee Kleeberger and Rielly Kleeberger; former spouse and cherished friend, Khai King; beloved friend Marla Bambenek; and nieces, nephews, and relatives.
SERVICE: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Waters of Life Lutheran Church, 6221 Rice Lake Road, Duluth, with a reception following the service.
