Walmart and the Salvation Army are joining forces to make Christmas a little better for Northland kids.
The two are hosting a “Fill the Truck” toy drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Hermantown Walmart, 4740 Mall Drive. Last year’s event helped the Duluth Salvation Army provide toys and coats to more than 3,000 area kids in need.
The event is open to anyone who would like to donate new toys and coats. Interested shoppers arriving at the store can pick up a list of suggested gifts. Shoppers may drop off donated items at the large white Salvation Army truck parked near the store entrance.
In addition, Walmart and Sam’s Club are hosting Salvation Army red kettles in front of their stores through Christmas Eve. In 2011, the stores helped the Salvation Army raise $26,764 locally.
