Duluth Mayor Don Ness and City Councilor Emily Larson will show their support this morning for a vigil taking place in front of the Gerald Heaney Federal Building in the Civic Center Plaza in Duluth.

The vigil is calling for representatives in Washington to extend tax cuts and avoid the fiscal cliff. Activists showed up at the federal building at 7 a.m. Friday and will wrap up their protest after the mayor arrives at 11 a.m. The 30-hour vigil is symbolic to the 30 days legislators have left to solve budget problems.

The group, supported by the state activist conglomerate called The Action, asks for retaining tax cuts for the middle class and increasing taxes on the top 2 percent of income earners.
