George A. "Bud" Renier, 88, of Duluth, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, with his family by his side.
Bud was born in Virginia, Minn., on July 7, 1924 to Charlotte (Martin) and Oscar “OJ” Renier.
The family moved to Duluth where he attended St. Jean de Baptiste grade school. He later graduated from the Boys Cathedral High School in 1942, which Bud always proudly proclaimed to be the final class that was taught by the Christian Brothers. Bud was also a Boy Scout leader and taught gun safety.
In 1955 he married the love of his life, Patricia Gollinger. Together they raised seven children to whom he was completely devoted and of whom he was most proud. Bud loved his family with all his heart. He was a loyal chief-cost-accountant for Clyde Iron Works for 38 years. After retirement he continued to work from home as accountant for the Hacienda Del Sol restaurant.
He was also an active member of Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, where he volunteered his time as a Eucharistic minister. He was also involved in the following organizations: Knights of Columbus, National Accountants Association, The American Wine Society and the American Rose Society.
Bud had many talents and even instructed wine making for community education. At one time he donated his pure grape wine to Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary and The Benedictine Health Center for use at Mass. He prided himself on attention to detail in all his work, such as wood burning and ceramic artwork, and he shared the results of that work with many people as gifts that will be cherished forever.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Steven Long, Gail Wallace NP, Dr. Jeff Engelsgjerd and the hospitalists at Essentia Health, St. Mary's Medical Center. Also, special thanks to Katie Pehling, Nancy Gregory and Natalie McMinn who Bud respectfully called "his girls", who gave him loving home-health care.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ellsworth, and sister Mary Snider.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; sons Dr. Hugh (Kris) Renier of Duluth; Dr. Budd (Mara) Renier of Cambridge, Minn., and Steve (Karin) Renier of Golden Valley, Minn.; daughters Colleen Renier, Judi (Kevin) Renier of Duluth, Mary (Rick) Johnson of Hermantown, and Michelle (Jody) LeBlanc of Duluth; grandchildren Erin and Tim Renier, Andrea Johnson, Adam (Sarah) Johnson, and Ryan Johnson, Joe and Sam Renier, David and Marisa LeBlanc, and Jacob and Kaitlyn Renier; sister Jeri (Willard) Ogren; brother-in-law Ralph Snider; sister-in-law Elayne Renier; sister-in-law Jacqueline Gollinger; goddaughter Sara Rust; several nieces and nephews, and so many friends.
