James M. Nettleton "Jim", "Jimmy", "Ned", "Grumpy", "Stormin’ Norman", 57, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at St Luke’s Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1955 in Duluth.
Jim enjoyed golfing, traveling, crossword puzzles, football, and spending time with friends and family. He kept busy with many household projects and was a skillful carpenter. He was looking forward to retiring after a long career working for the railroad and was planning to move south near his sister, Sue. He was not a man of many words most of the time but had an inquisitive mind and curiosity about the world though he didn’t always understand it. As a private person who refused to embrace modern technology, he valued human contact over machines, computers, and the internet and would share his thoughts if you took the time. He had a goofy side, a smile like no other, and a natural way with kids. He liked to be ‘grumpy’ at times, but he was genuine, warm, and had a kind heart to those who knew him. Always lean, he could eat and drink whatever he wanted, and did. What a life!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry H. and Florence A. Nettleton.
Jim is survived by four brothers, and four sisters: Thomas H. (Gwen) Nettleton, Gerald D. (Carol) Nettleton, William H. (Ellie) Nettleton, Larry R. (Sherri) Nettleton, Susan F. (Sly) Levings, Cynthia S. (Eric) Delacy, Christine M. (Roark) Schwagerl, Sandra R. (Mark) Johnston; as well as 15 nieces and nephews, one great nephew, and his two "children", his cats, Callie and Snookie.
He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Visitation 1 p.m. until the service.
