Planners prepare for Duluth's annual Thanksgiving buffet at DECC

Preparations are under way for the Northland’s biggest annual free feed.

The 23rd annual Twin Ports Thanksgiving Buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, a news release from the College of St. Scholastica announced. The event is produced by the college and community volunteers.

Planners expect to serve turkey dinner with all the trimmings to about 5,000 people at the DECC and to serve about 1,000 meals to home-bound residents. Twin Ports residents in need of home delivery should call (218) 723-6484 by Nov. 16 to request delivery.

Bus service

Free transportation will be provided to and from the buffet at the DECC on Duluth Transportation Authority buses. Shuttles will run between the Holiday Center stop and the DECC. Continuous bus transportation will be available throughout the day from 24th Avenue East to 57th Avenue West in Duluth.

  • Duluth: Damiano Center, CHUM drop-in center, YWCA, Harbor Highlands, Tri-Towers Apartments, Morgan Park.

  • Superior: Peter Rich Center, Royalton Manor, Clifford Lund Apartments, Solid Rock Mission, 14th and Tower, Phoenix Villa.

    Carlton, Cloquet

    A buffet also will be available at Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Ave., Cloquet, and for the first time this year at Street Car Kitchen, 232 Chestnut Ave., Carlton.

    Buffet hours in both Cloquet and Carlton will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Home-bound residents of Cloquet, Carlton and the surrounding area who wish to request home-delivered meals should call (218) 879-9238.

    Volunteers

    Several volunteer shifts are filled for the Duluth event, but some shifts remain. Volunteers can sign up online at www.css.edu/thanksgiving.xml or call the volunteer phone line at (218) 723-6774.

    In Cloquet, call Volunteer Services of Carlton County at (218) 879-9238 to volunteer for shifts on Wednesday and Thursday.
