Health Notes: Facing the end of life

A professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth campus will discuss end-of-life issues in a public lecture on Wednesday.

A professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth campus will discuss end-of-life issues in a public lecture on Wednesday.

Barbara Elliott, professor of family medicine at the Duluth campus, will speak in the free event from 5-7 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Duluth Solon Campus Center (Room 120). The lecture is sponsored by UMD’s Center for Ethics and Public Policy.

Elliott will speak about topics including physician orders for life-sustaining treatment, do-not-resuscitate orders, advance directives and proxy consent.

She teaches ethics, the health issues of family violence and spirituality, and health care at the medical school. She also is trained and works as a hospital chaplain.
