1918 – 2012

Arthur A. Goewey, 94, of Barnum passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake.

He was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Barnum to Dean and Leontina (Norman) Goewey and graduated from Barnum High School in 1936. Art served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio mechanic and communication technician. He worked for Northwestern Bell for over 35 years, starting as a lineman then working as a toll test technician (long distance). After retiring, Art and Marion wintered in the southwest for many years and lived on Hanging Horn Lake in Barnum the remainder of the time. Art enjoyed all the family gatherings that happened throughout the years at the lake.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion; three sisters, Marian Gooler, Violet Emzinger and Alice Harrington; and two brothers, Harold “Bud” and Earl Goewey. He is survived by one son, Robert “Bob” (Laura) Goewey of Duluth; two daughters, Margaret “Margie” Goewey of Portland, OR, and Judith “Judy” (Scott) Kent of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Pearl Delarosby of Barnum; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. The visitation will resume on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service, also at Nelson Funeral Care, followed with a meal in the fellowship room. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Barnum, with Military Honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. See the family online guest book at www.nelsonfuneralcare.net.
