A second person from the Northland has volunteered to help with relief efforts in the eastern U.S.
Susan Dettweiler of Brimson is one of nine Minnesotans deployed as part of the Red Cross response to Hurricane Sandy, a news release from the Northland Chapter of the Red Cross said. John Schiefelbein of Ely was deployed Saturday.
More deployments from Minnesota are likely, the news release said.
People wishing to make a financial donation to help with the relief response can visit www.redcross.org, call (800) RED-CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
More than 300 Red Cross blood drives have been canceled because of the storm. To schedule a blood donation or for more information, visit
redcrossblood.org or call (800) RED CROSS.
