Reader’s view: Retired Esko librarian urges ‘yes’ vote for schools

I enjoyed every moment being the high school librarian in Esko for 34 years. I had the privilege of working in a close-knit community that was very supportive of its school and with students who were simply the best. I have been retired for six years but still maintain close ties to many former students and their parents.

I enjoyed every moment being the high school librarian in Esko for 34 years. I had the privilege of working in a close-knit community that was very supportive of its school and with students who were simply the best. I have been retired for six years but still maintain close ties to many former students and their parents.

When I visit with former Esko students, I am constantly reminded of what a wonderful job the Esko district has done. During my tenure, the district was always one of the very best, with students and community taking pride in academic performance, their teams and in their school. The community supported the administration and teachers, and the environment always was positive. When I attend reunions, former students always mention what a positive experience they had in school.

In today’s world, to maintain the past excellence, the district needs more revenue. To meet these needs, the community will vote on a levy and a referendum. Both are necessary to maintain programs, class sizes and to have a respectable athletic field with no frills. Without passage, the Esko schools will experience program reductions, staff reductions, increased class sizes and will compete on a substandard athletic field. Future Esko students should have the same excellent opportunities the district provided in the past. I urge all my former library patrons and their parents living in Esko to vote “yes” on both issues. Keep the tradition of excellence going.
