LUCILE READ HAMMERSTEDT

Lucile Read Hammerstedt, 98, Duluth, died Oct. 24, 2012 at Edgewood Vista.

She was born in Onamia, Minn., on March 22, 1914 to Lucien and Alice Read.

Lucile was a graduate of Morgan Park High School and the Duluth State Teachers College. She taught school in rural North Dakota, Holyoke, Minn., Genesen, outside of Duluth and also substituted in Duluth Elementary Schools. She married Roy Hammerstedt in Minneapolis in December of 1938. She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Mary Circle as well as other church activities. Lucile was also active in the Piedmont Garden Club, Cub Scouts, Brownie Scouts and Girl Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles, Robert and Harold and Edward, sister Susan and daughter Karen Engeman.

Lucile is survived by her husband, Roy, son Roy H. (Susan Shepard), grandchildren Scott(Jessica) and Heather(Peter), daughter Emily(James Krohn) , grandchildren Karin(William) and Erik and great-grandchildren Cassidy Hammerstedt and Silas Read O'Connell, son-in-law Rodney Engeman and grandchildren Nathan and David and 14 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and grandnephews.

VISITATION: 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial Service Sunday, Oct. 28 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign St., Duluth, MN, 55811. Inurnment Augustana Cemetery. Memorials to the Christ Lutheran Church Library are preferred. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home.
