AUSTIN, Minn. — A necropsy will determine if a raccoon that bit a 3-year-old girl near Austin had rabies.

The girl's mother stepped onto her porch Tuesday and saw the raccoon biting her daughter's arm. She kicked the raccoon away and her husband killed it.

The girl was treated for puncture wounds at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

The Post-Bulletin reported that police have taken a half-dozen reports from citizens in the last week about unusual raccoon behavior, including raccoons that appear lethargic and unafraid of humans.
