Anne Louise Nygard, 90, passed away peacefully on Oct. 16, 2012 after a full and rewarding life.
Anne was born on July 23, 1922 in Williamsport, Penn., to Byron and Emma Gleckner.
Anne’s father owned a furniture and music store when she was a child. Anne often remembered, with great happiness, how they had their own family orchestra. Anne played the violin while her dad; mother; and oldest sister, Mary, played their own instruments and youngest sister, Dorothy, sang along so beautifully. Music continued to be very important to Anne throughout her lifetime.
Anne fell in love with her one true love, Walter Edwin (Ed) Nygard while he was a cadet at West Point. They were married Jan. 27, 1943. Since Ed remained as an officer in service for 23 years, he and Anne, and eventually their five beloved sons, lived in many places in the U.S., France, Italy, and even a castle in Germany. Anne gave many dinner parties for officers and their wives and was very involved in various activities on post.
Upon Ed’s retirement from the Army, the family moved to Duluth, in 1964. Not long after, Anne decided she’d enjoy a career in real estate. She worked for Bowman Realtors and successfully sold homes for 20 years.
Eventually, Anne and Ed spent many wonderful years of retirement together in their homes in Duluth; Lillian, Ala.; Gallatin Gateway, Mont.; and Bozeman, Mont. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, and making maple syrup together. Anne continued her passion for oil painting and was a very talented artist.
Anne’s family was her joy. She was so very proud of her husband, five sons, and three grandsons. She always made holidays festive and loved to make delicious meals and desserts for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook. Anne’s beautiful smile could light up a room. She will be greatly missed by her loving family.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Emma; her husband, Ed; and sisters, Mary Huskin and Dorothy Arey.
Anne is survived by her sons Richard (Joan) Nygard, Berkeley, Calif., David (Jane) Nygard, Duluth, Thomas (Shannon) Nygard, Bozeman, Mont., James (Katy) Nygard and Robert Nygard, Gallatin Gateway, Mont.; grandsons Daniel Nygard, Minneapolis, Elliot (Beck) Nygard and Webster Nygard, Bozeman, Mont.; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, including Beverly and Veronica Nett.
Anne’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Birchwood Assisted Living and Gallatin Rest Home in Bozeman, Mont., for their loving, compassionate care during Anne’s last years.
PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE: will be held at a later date.
