James Douglas Payne, 58, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 in Duluth.
He was born July 15, 1954 and grew up in Roseville, Minn.
Jim graduated from Mounds View High School in 1972. He went on to graduate with honors from Brown Institute. He worked at Red Rock Radio in Duluth as General Sales Manager.
He was a member of the Duluth Chamber of Commerce, an active member of the Glen Avon Masonic Lodge No. 306 of Duluth, and a past Master of the Lodge. In his younger years he was also a member of DECA.
Jim truly lived life to the fullest, and loved being a part of many things. He was an avid golfer, reader; he enjoyed traveling, his home in Alabama, and spending time with family and friends. When he was younger he loved hunting and fishing with his father. He was a bold and charismatic man, with an incredibly big heart and an open mind, who is probably best known for his love of music, and especially, for his love of laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Bernier) Payne.
He is survived by a sister Patricia (Payne) Shimek; daughter Jamie Payne; son Samuel Payne; step-children Andrew Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, Madison Karaba, and Mercedes Karaba, as well as many other loving family members and good friends.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, until the 11 a.m. Masonic Service in Sunrise Funeral Home in Duluth. Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home.
