George S. Kamp, 89, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Franciscan Health Center, Park Point.
George S. Kamp, 89, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Franciscan Health Center, Park Point.
George Stanley Kamp was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Proctor, Minn., the son of Thorwald and Mary (Larson) Kamp.
The family moved to Minneapolis where he attended Edison High School. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and later in the Reserves. He married Beverly Anne Louiselle on April 7, 1945 in Minneapolis. He was an electrician and owned several small businesses, including, grocery stores, a gas station, and a craft store. He retired in 1996.
George was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Proctor, V.F.W., Knights of Columbus, and the Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, nature walks, gardening, and snowshoeing in the spring to go fly-fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Sam Solon; brother, Rolf Kamp; sisters, Mary Winther and Elsie Young.
George is survived by his wife, Beverly of Duluth; children, Yvonne Prettner Solon of Duluth, Gary (Terri Schaffer) Kamp of Duluth, Gregory (Claudia) Kamp of Duluth, Daniel (Muffett) Kamp of Duluth, Jon (Lisa) Kamp of Proctor, and Sherry (Phil) Larson of Proctor; special daughter, Terri Willoughby of Duluth; sister, Dorothy Hall of Minneapolis; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to the staff of Franciscan Health Center for their wonderful care of George for the past year.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 with a Rosary at 7 p.m. in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 East Second St., Duluth. Mass of Christian of Burial at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 in St. Rose Catholic Church, 2 - 6th Avenue, Proctor. Burial at Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown with military honors by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home (218) 727-3555.
