Stretch of Haines Road in Duluth has reopened

A portion of Haines Road in Duluth has reopened.
While the stretch below Skyline Parkway remains closed, Haines is now open to motorists clear to Morris Thomas Road. As a result, motorists can again travel along Skyline Parkway between Piedmont Avenue and Highland Street. Drivers commuting between Duluth and Hermantown will have the option of traveling from Highland to Skyline to Haines.
Runoff from heavy June rains significantly damaged Haines Road, forcing its closure nearly four months ago. Since late August, St. Louis County Public Works crews have been working to install a 300-foot-long box culvert in the area where Skyline Parkway overlaps with Haines. At the same time, workers completed repairs to West Skyline.
Haines Road will only remain open temporarily. It is expected to close again in January when blasting begins as part of a major reconstruction project that will likely last until November.
Before the June flood, an average of 7,000 vehicles traveled Haines Road each day.
Once complete, the new road should be wider and safer for both motorists and pedestrians.
