She was born in Duluth April 8, 1935, to Dr. George and Muriel Lawson. Betsy was a true renaissance woman. She was an accomplished downhill ski racer, marathon runner, seamstress, knitter, award winning quilter, musician and mathematician.
Betsy was raised in Lakeside and attended Lester Park Elementary and East Junior/Senior High School where she was a cheerleader. She then attended UMD where she graduated with honors with a double major in physical education and math. During her high school and college years and later into life, she was an accomplished ski racer. She was one of the few Duluth residents who received an invitation to the Harriman Cup in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Betsy married Al Arnold in June 1957 and during their marriage they had four children. They spent their married life skiing every weekend at Mont du Lac ski area where they were part of the ski patrol family. In June 1972 she married Alex Eglinton and moved with her four children to Battle Creek, Mich. During their 40 years of marriage, they enjoyed long distance biking, skiing in Duluth and out west, camping and traveling. Betsy was an accomplished marathon runner and Alex was her support team through all of the marathons and numerous 10K races.
In May 1976, Betsy earned a masters in mathematics from Western Michigan University. After earning her masters, she began a career teaching college math at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. In 2002, Betsy and Alex moved back to her home of Duluth, where she lived until her passing.
Betsy had many accomplishments but none brought her more joy and pleasure than her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and special friend.
