Lucille Rathe, 94, of Duluth, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in the Franciscan Health Center on Park Point.
Lucille was born in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Jan. 5, 1918, to Clara and Joseph Clement. The family emigrated from Canada to the United States when she was a child. She resided in Duluth a majority of her life. She met and married her husband, Maynard, in Duluth. Eventually they made their home in Duluth Heights where they raised three children. Following her husband’s passing, Lucille went on to live in several different locations, finally settling in Morgan Park.
Lucille spent her entire life as a homemaker and enjoyed the task. She was a wonderful baker and liked nothing better in the morning than her coffee with cinnamon rolls and lots and lots of butter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; son Kenneth Rathe; sisters Betty Hausenuer, Teresa Randall and Margaret Sterling; and brothers Arthur and Louie Clement.
Lucille is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Joyal) Joyelle, Beth Post (Wallin) and Warren Post; grandchildren Patrick (Jennifer) Joyal, Heather (Andy Wilcox) Wallin, and Sara (Trent) Williams; great-grandchildren Cole, Justine, Taylor, Jordan, Bella and Johanna; her brother, Edward Clement; brother-in-law Harlan (Marion) Rathe; and many nieces and nephews.
Our thanks go out to the wonderful staff at the Franciscan Health Center for their extraordinary care and kindness towards Lucille.
