Grandparents are grand
We asked our readers what makes their grandparents so special. This is what they had to say.
My papa, Steve Morgan of Hermantown, is the best papa ever because he plays trains with me! He also helped make a tunnel for my trains to go through. He makes sure the trains stay on track. Papa takes me to look at trains and we go to the train store together.

Meghan Stephan, 6, of Duluth says her great-grandma Alice Stephan, 97, is fun to be with. “We go for walks and play go fish together.”
Our nana, Mary K. Hagen of Duluth, is the best grandmother because she is loving, caring, kind and funny. Our nana plays with us, comes to our games and school activities. Our nana supports us in academic and our athletic achievements. Nana makes us laugh when we feel down and she is just a great nana to be around! Our nana loves us unconditionally and enjoys spending time with us, especially at our cabin. We love our nana so much and we think that she is the best nana in the whole world/universe.

What makes our Grandma Ree, Irene Hudacek of Superior, the best grandma is she is there to help, support, encourage, play, teach, mentor and love us unconditionally. Grandma Ree helps get us to and from dance classes, school, play dates, sports and day care. She supports us in any activity or sport we participate in by being there for practices and games. She is one of our biggest cheerleaders! Grandma Ree encourages us to do and be our best and know how to choose right from wrong through her guidance. She is always ready to play dolls, games, cards, school, Barbies, shopping, beauty parlor and anything else we creatively come up with. Grandma Ree listens to us read stories, helps us write plays and books and then helps coordinate a production of the stories in her living room for Mom, Dad and Papa. She teaches us to have the ability to love and respect anyone or anything through volunteering with school, church, and run/walks throughout the community. Grandma Ree always has a smile on her face and laughter in her heart. Her heart is full of kindness and love for us and our friends. She is always ready to surprise us with thoughtful and meaningful things and ideas that means the world to us. We love our Grandma Ree to pieces, and this is a sample of why we have the best grandma!

My name is Maija Lei Grimes and my grandma, Julie Lyytinen, is very special to me. She listens to me and plays with me. We both love dolls. We have sleepovers and tea parties with our American Girl dolls. We also enjoy doing craft projects together. She makes beautiful handmade cards and she always hangs my art projects up on her refrigerator. My grandma makes me feel very special.
