Help available for flood erosion on private land

Private landowners in south St. Louis County who have yet to register erosion issues from the June floods should do so by Sept. 28, according to the South St. Louis Soil and Water Conservation District. Private landowners in south St. Louis County who have yet to register erosion issues from the June floods should do so by Sept. 28, according to the South St. Louis Soil and Water Conservation District. The agency already has received more than 100 calls. New, undocumented erosion also might be eligible for recently allocated flood-relief money.

To register land-based problems from the June flood anywhere in south St. Louis County, including Duluth, call the South St. Louis Soil and Water Conservation District office at (218) 723-4867.

Land-based issues include erosion, landslides, stream bank failures or other shoreline collapses, for both commercial and residential properties. Damage to structures and roads is being cataloged and assessed by other offices.

In coming weeks, people who have already called the SWCD office will be contacted about the Conservation District’s strategy for their property. Conservation districts regularly offer cost-share programs to private landowners for erosion control. More info about the disaster recovery program for erosion is available at the SWCD w
