David Carlson, 66, of Duluth, passed away unexpectedly, Sept. 3, at Essentia Hospital surrounded by family.

He was born Sept. 5, 1945 to Harris and Margret (Weir) Carlson in Superior, Wis., and grew up in Esko, Minn.

At the age of 13 he discovered his passion for horse racing. He became a jockey and went on to win many races. Besides his work as a horse jockey he was also a baker, caregiver and drove for Dahlen Transport for 19 years.

Daves love for people made his retirement job, as a greeter, at Hermantown Walmart a perfect fit. He loved driving his 51 Chevy with his Vintage Car Club friends. Above all else he was a loving husband, devoted father and grandpa. He touched the lives of everyone he met and will be sadly missed by many, many people.
