Darlene went to be with the Lord Jesus on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, in her home at Serving Hands Assisted Living in Chisholm, surrounded by family and friends.

E. Darlene Beekmann was born Nov. 7, 1925 in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Carroll and Alice (Larson) Fox, and was a graduate of Forest City High School.

She married Arthur W. Beekmann on Aug. 25, 1950 in Forest City. They farmed in Buffalo Center, Iowa until moving to Carlton County, Minnesota in 1957. Art and Darlene moved to Two Harbors, Minn., in 1998. Following Art's death in 2008, Darlene moved to Chisholm, Minn. She was employed as the Deputy Treasurer for Carlton County from 1959 until her retirement in 1987.

Darlene was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Cloquet, attended Grace Baptist in Two Harbors, and the Chisholm Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, rosemaling, gardening, baking and singing.

Darlene is survived by children Doug (Grace) Beekmann of Duluth, Cyndy (Bob) Johnson of Two Harbors, Michele Beekmann of Lincoln, Neb., Jeff (Dianna) Beekmann of Cloquet, and Crys (Bill) Lowry of Hibbing; sister Lorraine (Virgil) Swanson of Forest City, Iowa; grandchildren Emily (Adam) Huneke, Christopher (Christina) Beekmann, Eric (Sara) Johnson, Betsey (Josh) Rucinski, Leah Beekmann, J.D. Beekmann, Jake Beekmann, Ian (Hailey) Lowry, Mary (Brett) Erickson, and Tressa Lowry; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Gerrie (Curtis) Selen; special daughter Beneice Jones; nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Art.

Darlene's family wishes to extend a very grateful and heartfelt thank you to Essentia East Range Hospice and to Todd and Bonnie Nelson and the serving hands of their wonderful caregivers.
