ST. PAUL — A national group working to defeat the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in Minnesota is launching its first TV ad.

The group Freedom to Marry will run its ad on TV and cable networks in Duluth and the Twin Cities. Supporters say the ad buy is in the mid-six figures and will run for several weeks.

The ad features an older Duluth couple talking about how the world has changed and how everyone deserves to enjoy that happiness they have experienced in their 59 years of marriage.

Minnesota Public Radio News says the group working to pass the amendment, Minnesota for Marriage, plans to run ads later in the campaign. The amendment on the November ballot defines marriage as between one man and one woman.
