LIL NUMMELA-EVENSEN

Lil Nummela-Evensen, 81, Moose Lake, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.

Lil Nummela-Evensen, 81, Moose Lake, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1930 at a rural hospital in Wright, Minn., to Anna (Koslosky) and Walter Kibert.

For three years, Lil attended Nilsen School which was a one room school. She later attended Cromwell School graduating in 1948. While attending high school, Lil worked and lived at the Trolley Inn in Cromwell. After graduation, Lil worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Duluth, for the University of Chicago, and at Evanston Golf Course in Illinois. She returned to college and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from UMD. Lil taught school in Kalevala, Barnum, and Kettle River for seven years and then taught for 26 years for the Moose Lake School District. After 33 years of teaching, Lil retired and continued to substitute teach for several years.

Lil was a dedicated member of the American Cancer Society Board and was instrumental in starting the Cancer Closet and Daffodil Days in Moose Lake, was a Reach to Recovery volunteer for 25 years, and worked on the Relay for Life Event. Lil was also a member of the Carlton County Retired Educators, Retired Educators Association of MN (REAM), Augustana/Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Moose Lake Historical Society, Alpha Delta Kappa, and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and its St. Ann's Guild.

Lil was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Anna Kibert; a brother Joe; and sisters Ann and Vera.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Orv; three sons Randy (Pat) Nummela of Mora, Terry (Julie) Nummela of Moose Lake, and Tim (Kris) Nummela of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Kyle Nummela, Destany Nummela, Trevor Nummela, Kendra Nummela, Cole Nummela, Anna Rose Nummela, and Leah Nummela; Step-grandchildren Amy (Kyle) Westrick, Andy (Renae)) Sloth, Shawn (Melissa) Johnson, Tory Johnson; step great grandchildren Kaleb and Logan Westrick; Reed and Zach Sloth; Carter, India, and Ledger Johnson; sisters Edyth and Rose; special niece Bernice Gresczyk of Long Beach, Calif.; special nephew and "brother" Wally (RoseMary) Kissel of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL VISITATION: 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake with a Prayer Service at 6 p.m.. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at Wright Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed in Lil's memory to The Holy Angels Debt Reduction Fund, to the next Relay for Life in Moose Lake, or to the Scholarship Fund of Alpha Delta Kappa.
