Bradley Louis Swenson, 57, of Bemidji, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, in his home.

Brad was born June 12, 1955, in Duluth to Arnold and Elsye (Jensen) Swenson.

He was raised and educated in Duluth, where he graduated from Duluth East High School. He graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he worked for The Statesman, the university newspaper. He also did an internship with the Duluth News Tribune.

He was hired by the Bemidji Pioneer as a reporter in May 1980. He was later named managing editor. Most recently, he was the Pioneer's political editor and Opinion page editor, and covered the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners. Brad covered politicians from the local and county level through governors.

Brad loved his work with the Pioneer, but he retired in August 2011 because of health issues.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by an uncle, Lawrence (Susan) Jensen of Minneapolis;

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, in First Lutheran Church in Bemidji.
