Lake Michigan fish consumption advisories

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offers the following advisories for eating salmon and trout from Lake Michigan based on the presence of PCBs and mercury in fish:

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offers the following advisories for eating salmon and trout from Lake Michigan based on the presence of PCBs and mercury in fish:

  • One meal per week — rainbow smelt, rainbow trout less than 22 inches, yellow perch less than 11 inches.

  • One meal per month — brown trout less than 28 inches, Chinook salmon, chubs, coho salmon, lake trout less than 25 inches, lake whitefish, rainbow trout larger than 22 inches, yellow perch larger than 11 inches.

  • Six meals per year — brown trout larger than 28 inches, lake trout 25 to 29 inches.

  • Do not eat — Lake trout larger than 29 inches.
