UPDATE: The Ontario Provincial Police reported Thursday afternoon that the sinkhole has been filled and the highway has been fully reopened.

Travelers on Highway 61 between Grand Portage and Thunder Bay should expect delays today as crews work to repair a large sinkhole that developed in the southbound lane.

The sinkhole appeared on the highway at Little Trout Bay Road, the Ontario Provincial Police reported. That's about 15 miles north of the border. One lane remains open, but travelers should expect delays.

If the hole can be patched, the road may fully reopen later this morning. If more complex repairs are required, the work may last significantly longer, the provincial police reported.
