Think you have what it takes to take wife-carrying to the next level? The FinnThunder celebration in Thunder Bay, Ontario, offers the chance to flex those competitive muscles.

The 73rd annual festival is July 27-29 and includes all things Finnish such as sports, plays, music, workshops, lectures, films, dances, art exhibits and a marketplace. You can learn how to make lettuja (Finnish pancakes) or pulla (coffee bread). There also will be lessons in Finnish tango and a shot at conquering the world record in Nordic walking — fitness walking with poles. (Hopeful record breakers want to collect 1,500 people. The current record is held in Sweden, where 1,026 people walked 3 kilometers with poles).

And then, of course, there is the annual wife-carrying competition. For more information on the festival, go to finnthunder2012.com.
