The Spirit Valley Drum and Bugle Corps will host a talent show to raise funds to cover the costs of maintaining the ongoing activities of the Corps. The Corps is sponsoring its first competition talent show Friday, July 20, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the American Legion, Post #71 at 5814 Grand Avenue.

The competition is open to the general public. Prizes and trophies will be awarded at the event.

“People can sign up to perform and compete in any form of family entertainment. There will be some schools of dance and university groups and some individual music students as well. Puppetry, theatrical, music, vocal and dance will all be represented,” said Diane Martinek, director of the Corps.

The Sprit Valley Drum and Bugle Corps was established on April 13, 2011 and currently has 24 members. The group consists of volunteer musicians who perform patriotic and military music, as well as music for memorials and services. The Corps has performed concerts on Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, Pearl Harbor Days, and at community events, local parades and Honor Flight receptions.

The group practices weekly at the American Legion Post #71. Its next concert is during the Relay for Life at Bayfront Park on July 27.

Call Diane Martinek at 218-349-9562 to register. The registration fee is $5.
