After all the road destruction from the Twin Ports flooding, good transportation is more important than ever. On July 1, Duluth residents can help Community Action Duluth get some new wheels just by voting. Community Action Duluth is now in competition to win a minivan from Toyota this Sunday, the only day that votes can be cast for Community Action Duluth to win the van. The contest is called 100 Cars for Good.
“We have a van that was donated to us, and we’re thankful for that. But, now you can feel the pavement on the street while you’re driving in the van. The van is completely falling apart and is inadequate for hauling our workers around to our urban farm location where we have the Seeds of Success program. That’s why we urgently need a van,” said Angie Miller, executive director of Community Action Duluth, who also pointed out that the organization offers classes in the evening and many clients who attend those classes need a ride to and from events.
“Lots of our participants do not have cars and we end up paying for cabs, and taxis don’t have car seats, so that’s not really a suitable way to transport families, either in terms of time or money since we end up paying most of the cab fares.”
If Community Action Duluth wins against four other competitors, none of whom are headquartered in the Twin Ports, they’ll be riding in style. Community Action Duluth needs the van to support its Seeds of Success and Community Engagement programs. To see a humorous video of the current van in action, go to http://bit.ly/VoteCAD.
