Ruth I. Sullivan, 86, of Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia.
Ruth I. Sullivan, 86, of Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1925 in Wolf, Minn., on a dairy farm to Peter and Emma (Luoma) Hannula and grew up there, attending school in Cherry.
Ruth worked at Hendrickson's Bakery in Eveleth; Forestry Department in Eveleth and for the Mesabi Daily News in the mail room.
On Oct. 14, 1950 she married Joseph L. Sullivan in Eveleth and they had been Virginia residents since 1953.
She loved the outdoors, especially fishing, camping and gardening; finding 4-leaf clovers; cooking and baking caramel rolls, bread and biscuits; her "idle time" was spent crocheting and knitting socks and chopper liners. But most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph L. Sullivan on April 7, 2012; and two brothers, Arvid and Roy Hannula.
Ruth is survived by four children Mary Ellen (Tony) Kostanko of Virginia, Kathy (Mark) Pavlowich of Duluth, Joseph C. (Margaret Norha) Sullivan of Eveleth and Cindy (John) Latola of Palo; seven grandchildren Amber Peterson, Paul Kostanko, Nathan Pavlowich, Jillian Kostanko, Joseph M. Sullivan, Jake Latola, and Nicholas Sullivan; seven great-grandchildren, Abby, Conner, Carson, Adam, Anthony, Hailey and Emma; nieces and nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 in the Landmark Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia with Deacon Daniel Schultz officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia.
