Carlton and St. Louis county assessors will begin inspecting flood-damaged properties to determine need for property-tax relief and whether federal money might be available to flood victims.

Carlton County assessors will begin the work today, said Marci Moreland, the county’s assessor, who stressed that people affected not make repairs to their homes unless it’s absolutely necessary.

If repairs are made, she said, document them and keep pictures.

It’s not yet been determined when St. Louis County assessors will start evaluation, said Mark Monacelli, the county’s public records and property valuation director. However, he noted that much of the damage to the county was to public infrastructure.
