Suspect held in Virginia stabbings

Two people were injured and one man arrested in a stabbing incident early Saturday morning, Virginia police report.

VIRGINIA — Two people were injured and one man arrested in a stabbing incident early Saturday morning, Virginia police report.

In a news release, Interim Police Chief Dennis Benz said Virginia police were called at 2:16 a.m. to the 700 block of Third Street South with a report that two men had been stabbed. Police found that a 23-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest. He was later airlifted to a Duluth hospital. A 31-year-old man had been stabbed in the leg. He was treated and released at Virginia Regional Medical Center.

Police later located a 31-year-old male suspect at a nearby residence, the news release said. The suspect was arrested on preliminary charges of second-degree assault. The victims were from the Eveleth area and the suspect was believed to be from out of state. The investigation is continuing.
