Minnesota mayors are sending letters to Obama asking for immediate assistance for Duluth and the surrounding areas affected by flooding.
Duluth Mayor Don Ness said the campaign was started by Mayor Shep Harris of Golden Valley. In his letter to Obama, Harris said: “As we move into the summer season in Minnesota, this devastation could not have come at a worse time. Jobs are on the line as the greater Duluth area and Minnesota North Shore rely heavily on tourism.
“As mayors, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Duluth Mayor Don Ness and other local officials from Duluth and the surrounding area, and respectfully request your authorization for the appropriate national state of emergency declaration and all of the support that comes with that.”
