St. Louis County Commissioner Chris Dahlberg, who represents western Duluth and lives in the Morgan Park neighborhood, said Thursday he will look into whether federal money is available to build a new entrance to the neighborhood.

There are only two ways in and out of Morgan Park, and both have a road that dips low, below normal ground level, to pass under a railroad bridge.

With both entrances flooded Wednesday, people had no way to leave the neighborhood and no way for ambulances, police or firetrucks to get in.

“I think it’s something we need to take a look at,” Dahlberg said. “This has happened twice recently now, and it was much longer this time, and it’s a real public safety issue. This is the kind of project that could help prevent a serious problem.”
